As a creativity coach, I’ve spent my entire life studying and exploring creative fulfillment, and I’m here to guide you on your own journey of self-discovery.
Through my own personal experiences and explorations in various creative fields, I’ve developed a unique set of practices that encompass physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life. These practices form the backbone of my approach to creative work, and I’m excited to share them with you.
One of the key insights that I’ve gained is that creativity is not something that comes from us, but rather it comes through us. Everyone has their own Zone of Genius. It’s a matter of learning how to open ourselves up and connect with this infinite source of energy and intelligence.
Another important insight is that each of us has our own unique path to creative expression, and our subconscious is constantly providing us with clues to guide us towards the access point into our zone of genius. I have spent my entire life as an artist. Along the way I’ve played the role of the young whippersnapper, and the role of seasoned veteran. I’ve been the expert and the newbie, the insider and the outsider. I’ve worked alongside world-class artists and total novices, household names and geniuses who toil in anonymity. And there’s one all-important thing I’ve learned along the way:
Every human being has unlimited potential for creative expression.
But this raises a perplexing question: If we all have such infinite creative potential, why is it that so few of us ever seem to access it? To explain why this is the case, I offer you a metaphor:
Imagine two pools of water. The first is small, not too big and not too deep. We can see across it, through it, and we have access to pretty much everything that’s in it.
The second pool is enormous. Imagine a huge reservoir or an ocean. It is immensely wide and terrifyingly deep. We can’t see across it, we certainly can’t see the bottom, and we have literally no idea what’s in it. For all we know, this pool could be infinite.
There is a narrow canal connecting the two pools. Occasionally water travels from the large pool to the small one, and we get a snapshot of the infinite variety of sediment, foliage, and animal life that inhabit the vast reservoir.
Do you see where I’m going with this?
The small pool is our conscious mind, and the large pool is our subconscious mind. All of us can see what’s in the small pool. But when it comes to accessing the reservoir, many of us have no idea where to start. The canal connecting our two pools might splash water from one to the other every so often. But it seems to occur at random times, in random quantities, carrying a random selection of contents. It feels impossible to know when a dose of fresh water will arrive, or what it will be carrying when it does.
In the realm of creative work, the problem can be summed up as follows: How can we connect with our subconscious mind such that when we receive content from our infinite reservoir, we can actually put it to use? The infinite human potentials that we all have will remain inaccessible to us unless we have effective strategies for moving resources (ideas, images, energy, intelligence) through the canal in a consistent and reliable way.
Poets, musicians, playwrights, painters, and all kinds of artists throughout the ages have sought ways of bringing their ideas up from the depths and out into the world. One of the most excruciating human experiences is to know that we have something powerful to express, but not know how to access it, or what it even is.
Fortunately, there are numerous time-tested strategies for creating a powerful connection to our subconscious, and for ferrying ideas across the canal into our conscious mind. You don’t have to spend another day (or another sleepless night) with the sinking feeling that your creative calling remains just out of reach. Access to our deepest inspiration does not have to be random, it can be consistent and reliable.
